Groundhog day!

Yesterday was Groundhog day! Feb 2nd, the day the ‘fate’ of the winter is decided according to some! The groundhog (Marmota monax), also known as a woodchuck, whistle-pig, or in some areas as a land-beaver, is a rodent of the family Sciuridae, belonging to the group of large ground squirrels known as marmots. Commonly found in North America, groundhogs have four large, chisel-like incisor teeth. Because their teeth grow about 1/16 of an inch every week, groundhogs must spend a lot of time nibbling at trees or roots to wear down their teeth. If they don’t do that, they may jeopardize their own lives!

Now, the groundhog’s teeth have a functional purpose to serve in gathering food and building it’s home. Large, over sized teeth in people, not so much.

If you feel your teeth are disproportionately large talk to the team at Eagle Creek Dental here in North Burnaby. Dr. Nabi or Hodgson will review the options to improve your smile. It never hurts to get a second opinion if you think you have ‘chipmunk’, or ‘groundhog’ teeth! And, cosmetic consultations are FREE – can’t get better than that! Give us a call 604-298-5333.
